Arcata House

Want to make a donation? We collect items that will help clients when they move out. We store them in our garages until they need them—along with our “linen closet”. We like to concentrate on furniture and other items a family might need to set up a house.  Money, of course, is always welcome too!

CASA of Humboldt

Imagine you are a child who finds yourself in court; the victim of abuse or neglect... in the company of a judge, attorneys, social workers... all strangers. You are scared; your world has been turned upside down. You are alone.

This is the reality abused children face all the time. Far too many children have never slept in a warm bed, had clean clothes to wear, nutritious food to eat, or someone to hug. That's where CASA comes in. We provide one-to-one advocacy to help prevent children from "falling through the cracks."

You have the time. You have the heart. You can give a powerful voice to a needy child in Humboldt County. Our trained volunteers advocate for abused children in court, assuring that they are placed in safe, nurturing homes where they will flourish. We speak for children who would otherwise have no voice, giving unconditional love, ensuring that each child receives the needed services to heal.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) speaks for children in court because all children have a right to live in a safe, healthy and secure environment.

Most of all, CASA needs you to be a child's advocate. We also offer other volunteer opportunities. If you are not currently able to volunteer your time, please consider becoming a CASA supporter.

As a small nonprofit organization we provide a high level of care and attention to financial counseling to help reduce the stress of dealing with money hardships – assuring we’re genuinely concerned about each of our clients in their unique situation.  While we have a long history of assisting mostly people who are marginalized and struggling financially, our services can be of benefit to everyone.

Food for People

Hunger is a reality for 1 in 6 Americans.  These are often hard working adults, children and seniors who simply cannot make ends meet and are forced to go without food for several meals, or even days. Most of us simply have no idea.

Call us at (707) 445-3166 for more information on donating funds or food. You can also contact us at volunteer@foodforpeople.org to find out about our many volunteer opportunities.

North Coast Big Brothers Big Sisters

We are in need of responsible, positive Volunteer Mentors aged 18 and over who are interested in sharing a few hours per month with a child in their community. Matches meet 3-4 times per month for approximately 3-4 hours per outing while enjoying a variety of activities together - from basketball and fishing to shell-collecting and painting.

Board Members are needed to support the mission of NCBBBS through active involvement in fund-raising, planning and goal-setting, financial oversight, and public relations. Volunteer directors meet every other month, or more frequently when they are participating in a task force.

Donations are always needed to help us continue our mission of offering these services for free to the many families in Humboldt County who need positive mentoring for their child.

North Coast Resource Center

Running multiple programs from one facility can be costly even though we work hard to reduce overhead costs. Reaching out to the population that is the least funded for opportunities is costly, as most of our State and Federal funding goes to housing. It’s important for us to remember the basic needs that help keep a person healthy and willing to try again. We can always use shampoo, laundry soap, first aid supplies, cleaning supplies, toilet paper and most of all brooms and garbage bags so we can continue to keep our community streets clean from trash.

However, cash money always helps to buy the supplies we need.

W.I.S.H. House

W.I.S.H.  House, has lost our entire operating budget!

W.I.S.H. House is seeing record demand for services from women and families at the same time the Federal Emergency Shelter Grant has cut our funding.  WISH is the sole ongoing shelter in Southern Humboldt providing for the needs of women and children at risk.

We are asking our Community, Friends, Families, Service Providers, and Businesses to bridge the $180,000 budget gap. This past year W.I.S.H. has seen a 37.11% increase in request for services.  We are always at 100% capacity.  With the federal funding cut, W.I.S.H., is now dependent on private donations and will try to raise money through upcoming fundraisers.
